On Saturday, February 13th, the Point Mallard Ducks squared off against a group of US Army Rangers and servicemen from Fort Benning. The Ducks had an off-weekend and Coach Winkler was looking for a team to come out to Point Mallard and scrimmage the Ducks. Max Soliday, a Ranger, who also played for Coach Winkler when he was with the Hampton Roads Whalers, is a captain with the Fort Benning Hockey Club was a catalyst in getting his group here. “I had reached out to Max early in the week so he did not have a ton of lead time to get his team together, he got 10 players and myself and some of our guys filled out the roster. Each team played hard and we really appreciate these guys coming up. We needed to play a game and the intensity and pace was extremely solid. It is always a great experience for our players when they have the privilege to meet and interact with our military. I can’t thank Max and his team enough,” stated Coach Winkler.
The Ducks prevailed by a score of 11-10. As always, the Ducks would like to express our sincere gratitude to all of the men and women who serve our great country!!
