The Point Mallard Ice Complex is a key component of the Point Mallard Park owned and operated by the City of Decatur, Department of Parks and Recreation. The park opened to the public in 1970 and includes more than 750 acres of sports and recreational facilities. Point Mallard Golf Course is an eighteen-hole championship course with a USGA rating of 73.1 and a slope rating of 124. Additionally there is a seasonal waterpark including America’s first wave pool, an Olympic pool, waterslides and a lazy river as well as soccer, baseball and softball fields and tennis courts. The campground has 233 full hook up sites with free WIFI and is within a short walking distance of the ice complex.
The Point Mallard Ice Complex was completed in 2001 and includes a single 200 x 85 sheet of ice. The building includes a snack bar, party facilities, a small pro shop, skate rental and sharpening and four public locker rooms. In the spring of 2014 a new locker room and storage area were added for the Point Mallard Ducks. Inside the rink there is bleacher seating for 350 and seating/standing room on the glass for an additional 200. Additional standing room is available in the lobby overlooking the rink. The Ice Complex has 200 adjacent parking spaces and access to plenty of additional parking in near proximity in the park at the Point Mallard Aquatic Park.
The T C Almon Recreation Center is located adjacent to the Ice Complex in the park. The Point Mallard Ducks have access to the Recreation Center and use of the multi-purpose gymnasium, strength and conditioning facilities and weight room.
