Jake Cox and Matt Goodman head to the NAHL for playoff push

DECATUR, AL – The Point Mallard Ducks are happy to announce that captain Jake Cox (’97) and assistant captain Matt Goodman (’97) will complete the 2016-2017 season with our affiliate in the North American Hockey League, the Shreveport Mudbugs. Following the end of the Ducks season, Goodman and Cox packed their things and headed to Louisiana as the Mudbugs push towards home ice in the NAHL playoffs in their inaugural season.

Jake Cox just completed his third season with the Ducks, setting career highs with 33 goals and 61 points. Cox also added 2 goals and 1 assist during the Ducks playoff run this season. Cox has played 141 career games in Point Mallard recording 71 goals and 93 assists in the regular season. He has also added 8 Goals and 8 assists in 14 career playoff games. Cox has constantly been asked to perform in every situation and has rose to the challenge each and every time.

Matt Goodman has also played three seasons for the Ducks where he has been a mainstay on the blue line. During the 2014-2015 season, Goodman also spent time with the Springfield Jr. Blues of the NAHL. Over his three years in Decatur, Goodman has played in 123 regular season games notching 20 goals and 44 assists and a +56 rating. He has also chipped in 3 assists in 14 career playoff games, while recording a +10-postseason rating. Goodman also backstopped the Ducks special teams, and was regularly matched up against opponent’s top scoring forwards.

The Ducks are proud to be affiliated with the Shreveport Mudbugs as they compete in their first season in the North American Hockey League. The Mudbugs will finish 2nd in the South Division, they have three games remaining in the regular season and await their playoff opponent.
