Meet Tyler Trombly and returning Duck Austin Wilks

Meet Tyler Trombly, a local product who has been a standout on our 18U team for the past two seasons. Tyler was an assistant captain with our 18Us last season and also led the team in scoring, a unique combination that has coach Winkler excited about seeing Tyler at the next level, “Tyler’s shown an incredible ability to put the puck in the net, and play a complete game at the 18U level. What has really impressed me is his ability to lead by example. He plays the game the right way, has success and expects his teammates to play a similar style. It is that attitude and work ethic that tends to allow players to be successful when they jump up to higher levels.”  Here are some of Tyler’s favorite things, and plans for his career:

1.    Hometown
Meridianville, AL

2.    Favorite NHL team
Detroit Red Wings

3.    Favorite food

4.    Goals for the team this season
Win the league

5.    Your long team goal for hockey
To take it as far as I can

6.    Best moment in hockey thus far

7.    What intrigues you about Decatur, Alabama?
The scenery of the river when I drive across the bridge

Austin Wilks is our featured returner this week. Wilks came to Decatur via Arizona last season, and really grew into a solid defenseman. He began his rookie year in and out of the line up early on, but quickly became one of our best practice players and made a significant effort to get better on a daily basis. By the end of the season, Wilks was playing crucial minutes in the most important games of the regular season and playoffs. “We’re really expecting Austin to come in and earn top D-Man minutes from day one this year, he is another player whose character we need more of both on and off the ice”, Coach Winkler remarked.
