Point Mallard beats Sugar Land 4-2 after comeback scare


Sugar Land tried its best to erase a three-goal deficit, but Point Mallard would not be denied the victory and hung on to win, 4-2.

A goal by Josh Hamilton put Point Mallard up 4-1 in the second period, but Sugar Land pulled to within two on Matt DeNure's tally 15:06 into the third period.


With the win, Point Mallard avoided elimination to make the series score 1-1 in the best of three series.

Jake Cox was all over the ice for Point Mallard, as he racked up two goals in the win. Cox's tallies came at 9:18 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Point Mallard and on the power play 4:22 into the second to make the score 2-1 Point Mallard.

Point Mallard put up an impenetrable defensive front on the penalty kill, and did not allow Sugar Land to score on any of its three power plays. Point Mallard kept Sugar Land's goalie busy throughout the game, and Kevin Mackey made 51 saves on 55 shots.

Point Mallard also got points from Hamilton, who also had one goal and one assist. Point Mallard also got a goal from Justin Clark as well. More assists for Point Mallard came via Austin Weber, Jaleel Rosemond, and Jake Champaign, who contributed one each.

Alex Norwinski also scored for Sugar Land. In addition, Sugar Land received assists from Jake Garman and Kyle Hooper, who each chipped in one.

Cooper Seedott made 21 saves for Point Mallard on 23 shots. Point Mallard incurred 10 minutes in penalty time with five minors. Sugar Land incurred 24 minutes in penalty time with seven minors.
