With the Point Mallard Ducks set to hit the ice this fall, the coaching staff for Decatur’s new junior hockey team is complete. Head Coach Craig Bushey is joined by Assistant Coach Brian Coletta and Assistant Coach/Video Coach Rick Ice.
Craig Bushey accepts the position of Head Coach for the Point Mallard Ducks after a stellar career for the Chargers in which he scored over 100 points, followed by six years of professional hockey in the CHL and SPHL. When Bushey ended his career with the Huntsville Havoc he got involved in youth hockey, coaching local teams with the Thunder organization. Along with his coaching duties, Coach Bushey has made a big impact by building the sport in Decatur with Learn to Play Hockey classes and more programs to provide opportunities for local youth to play the great game of hockey.
Assistant Coach Brian Coletta is relocating 1,000 miles south from Finlandia University (NCAA DIII) to join the Point Mallard Ducks. Coletta has spent the previous four years at the NCAA level, where he won a MASCAC championship with Fitchburg State University in an overtime thriller and competed in the premiere conference in Division III hockey at Finlandia, where he was promoted to full-time assistant and director of hockey operations before coming to Decatur.
A former goaltender, Assistant/Video Coach Rick Ice relocates Big Rapids, Michigan. He will also serve as the Goaltending Coach for the Point Mallard Ducks. Ice comes to Point Mallard after working with Manny Legace and the Legace Hockey Academy for the past two years.
