After coming off a highly emotional home and home weekend with the Evansville ThunderBolts, the Ducks are preparing to head down south for 4 games in 4 days against the Euless Stars and the Texas Brahamas. On Veterans Day, the Ducks found themselves down 2-1 with 46 seconds left to go. With goaltender, Sam Gartner pulled for an extra-attacker, Ian Precht tied the game up at 2-2, and sent it to over time. With neither team scoring in the extra session the victor would be decided by a shoot-out. After six rounds, Cameron Hamblett got the home team the two points and an incredibly hard earned victory. The win capped off a great day of hockey that started with Fort Benning hockey team facing off against a team of senior players led by Ducks coaches Tim Flynn and Tom Winkler. The Ducks would like to thank the Fort Benning Hockey team, Austin High School ROTC Color Guard, The local Army recruiting branch, and Army Ranger, SGT Max Soliday for their support of the Ducks and their participation in the Veterans Day game celebration. Congratulations and “Thank You” to the new recruits that were sworn in during the game. “We were all over the board this game, but we dug down and got the job done, it was an emotional day and win,” stated Ducks GM/Head Coach Tom Winkler.
On Sunday the Ducks traveled up to Evansville for the return portion of the series. This was one of those games where just about everything that could have went wrong did. The Ducks got behind 2-0 after the first period but never recovered and were shut-out 5-0. “This one really stings, on so many fronts. We are continuing to mature as a team and we learned another lesson on how you have to be ready to play every night in this league. They had every advantage over us and we had no answers, no excuses,” stated Winkler.
