Point Mallard holds on for 6-5 win against Sugar Land


The Point Mallard Ducks survived a determined comeback attempt by the Sugar Land Imperials on the way to a 6-5 win.

A goal by Jake Cox put Point Mallard up 6-4 in the third period, but Sugar Land pulled to within one on Matthew Jung's tally 15:53 into the third period.


Cox had two goals to lead the Ducks to victory.

Point Mallard could not produce up to its normal offensive output. The Ducks put an average of 8.5 pucks into the net per game. Point Mallard struggled on the penalty kill, allowing the Imperials to score three power play goals on five chances.

Point Mallard also got points from Grant Dukus, who also registered one goal and two assists, Jaleel Rosemond, who also grabbed one goal and one assist, and Justin Clark, who also had one goal and one assist. Noah Gilreath also scored for Point Mallard. More assists for Point Mallard came via Jake Champaign, Matt Darnell, Justin Dunn, and Matt Goodman, who contributed one each.

Sugar Land also had goals scored by Mason Smith, Frazer Ellis, and Ryan James, who scored one goal each. Other players who recorded assists for Sugar Land were Matthew Winkle, Donavan Meyer, and Timothy OSullivan, who each chipped in one and Aksel Campbell, John Cuni, and Frank Muscarella, who contributed two each.

Billy Wager rejected 24 shots on goal for the Ducks. Point Mallard incurred 14 minutes in penalty time with seven minors. Sugar Land's OSullivan stopped 24 shots out of the 30 that he faced. The Imperials incurred eight minutes in penalty time with four minors.
