The Point Mallard Ducks’ offense had a big day, peppering the Texas Brahmas with 26 shots throughout the game, to go along with Joey Bernardini’s shutout. The Point Mallard Ducks took the lead before the halfway point in the first on a goal from Mason Evans and never looked back. Kevin Laplante assisted on both goals.
In the first period, Evans opened the scoring for the Ducks with what turned out to be the game winning goal at 10:46 with helpers from his teammates Matt Goodman and Kevin Laplante.
Jesse Stepp netted the insurance marker at 19:54 of the third with assists from Fletcher Chun and Kevin Laplante.
Point Mallard’s victory was in no doubt helped out by Bernardini’s shutout, as he stopped all 33 of the shots he faced. On the other hand, Bernardini’s counterpart, Myers, and Texas’ defense was stellar but only stopped 24 of 25 shots.
This win gives the Point Mallard Ducks the early lead in the series, with the two teams meeting again tomorrow in Texas.
